AEON MALL Hue, one of the most modern shopping centers in Central Vietnam, has officially been awarded LOTUS NC v3 Gold Certification by the Vietnam Green Building Council (VGBC). This achievement marks the successful culmination of a long journey, supported by VILANDCO as the green building consultant.
Located in An Van Duong New Urban Area, Hue City, the 96,442.8 m² project not only attracts visitors with diverse shopping and entertainment experiences but also stands out as a model of sustainable development. Achieving LOTUS Gold certification affirms that the project goes beyond sustainable design concepts—it demonstrates actual operational performance that meets the highest standards, setting a benchmark for green commercial buildings in Vietnam.
Green vision from the outset
From the design stage, AEON Vietnam defined a clear vision: to develop a large-scale shopping center aligned with sustainability and environmental responsibility. Green building strategies were systematically integrated into architecture, engineering, and materials. Thanks to this early approach, the project received Provisional LOTUS Certification for the design phase in 2023, validating the feasibility of its proposed green solutions.
From design to construction and operation
While the provisional certification recognized the concept, the real test came during construction and operation. Between 2023–2024, the project had to comply with strict LOTUS criteria—ranging from responsible material use and construction waste recycling to on-site environmental management.
A comprehensive commissioning process was conducted to fine-tune all MEP systems, ensuring optimal energy efficiency and real-world performance.

- Energy: 34.1% reduction in energy consumption vs. baseline; 4% from renewable energy; OTTV reduced by 57%; LPD reduced by 54.9% compared to QCVN 09:2017/BXD.
- Water: 44.2% reduction in potable water use; 100% reduction in potable water for landscape irrigation; efficient cooling tower system.
- Materials & Resources: 100% non-fired brick walls; 72% of construction waste recycled/recovered; effective operational waste separation.
- Health & Comfort: 100% fresh air ventilation; low-VOC finishing materials; optimized thermal comfort.
- Other highlights: Flood-resilient design; green index of 2.65; awareness programs to promote sustainable practices.

This certification reflects the close cooperation and long-term commitment of all stakeholders. AEON Vietnam remained steadfast in its sustainability vision; the design consultants and general contractor Obayashi embedded green solutions into every drawing and construction detail; and VILANDCO, as the green building consultant, provided continuous guidance and supervision to ensure compliance with LOTUS standards throughout design, construction, and operation.
