On 24 July 2026, the EDGE Certified Certification Presentation and Plaque Unveiling Ceremony was held with the participation of representatives from the Project Owner, the World Bank, IFC, VILANDCO, and other project partners. The certification was presented by Ms. Mariam J. Sherman, World Bank Division Director for Vietnam, Lao PDR, and Cambodia, marking a significant milestone in the building’s sustainability journey.
As one of Hanoi’s landmark Grade A office buildings, 63 Ly Thai To Building is home to the headquarters and offices of numerous international organizations, including the World Bank and IFC. Achieving EDGE Certified recognizes not only the Project Owner’s commitment to improving the building’s operational performance through renovation and optimization, but also demonstrates that existing buildings can successfully meet internationally recognized green building standards when upgraded through well-planned and sustainable strategies.
Following a comprehensive assessment and the implementation of optimized green building strategies, the project achieved impressive performance under the EDGE Certification framework:
- 37.24% reduction in energy consumption compared with the reference building.
- 43.88% reduction in water consumption, contributing to more efficient use of water resources.
- 100% reduction in embodied carbon in materials through the strategic reuse of existing building components.
- Approximately 305.5 tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided annually, contributing to climate change mitigation while improving the building’s operational performance.
These achievements were made possible through the integrated application of sustainable design and engineering solutions, including high-efficiency air-conditioning systems, high-performance glazing, energy-efficient lighting, water-saving sanitary fixtures, and, most notably, the strategic reuse of existing building components to reduce embodied carbon in construction materials.
VILANDCO was honored to accompany the Project Owner as the Green Building Consultant, providing consultancy on building performance optimization strategies and supporting the certification process. The successful achievement of EDGE Certification by 63 Ly Thai To Building demonstrates that existing buildings can be effectively transformed into greener, more sustainable assets through appropriate retrofit and optimization measures. This not only extends the building’s service life and enhances operational efficiency but also contributes to the sustainable development goals of the construction industry.
