The low-rise social housing blocks XH2 and XH3, part of the Ecohome Harmony Social Housing Project in Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Province, have officially achieved the EDGE Preliminary Certificate. In this project, VILANDCO serves as the green building consultancy, supporting the developer in evaluating, simulating, and optimizing technical solutions to meet the certification requirements at the design stage.
Ecohome Harmony is a social housing development by Capital House Group, comprising approximately 797 residential units, including apartment buildings and low-rise housing, targeting workers, low-income households, and young families. Within the overall project, the low-rise housing blocks XH2 and XH3 include 146 units that have now been recognized with Preliminary EDGE Certification. This achievement further reinforces Ecohome Harmony’s sustainable development orientation, following the project’s earlier milestones across other social housing components.
Social Housing and Green Buildings – A Feasible Path Forward
The practical implementation at Ecohome Harmony demonstrates that green buildings are not limited to high-end developments, but are entirely feasible for social housing when sustainability principles are embedded from the early design stage. In the social housing segment, green solutions prioritize resource efficiency rather than complex or high-cost technologies, helping improve energy and water performance, enhance living quality, and reduce long-term operating costs for residents. These benefits are especially meaningful for low-income households, where affordability, durability, and operating expenses are long-term concerns.
More importantly, applying green building principles to social housing demonstrates that sustainable development can be inclusive rather than exclusive, while contributing tangibly to improving the quality of the urban living environment.
Sustainability Performance under Preliminary EDGE Certification
According to the Preliminary EDGE Certification, the low-rise social housing blocks XH2 and XH3 at Ecohome Harmony achieved the following key performance indicators:
- 24% operational energy savings
- 37% water savings through the use of water-efficient fixtures
- 47% reduction in embodied energy in materials, contributing to lifecycle carbon emission reduction
All selected solutions are appropriate for social housing conditions, focusing on essential and easily deployable measures.
Significance for the Ecohome Harmony Project
The Preliminary EDGE Certification provides an important foundation for the XH2 and XH3 low-rise housing blocks to pursue full EDGE certification upon construction completion, contributing to the wider adoption of efficient, green, and sustainable social housing models in Vietnam.
The continued achievement of Preliminary EDGE Certification also reflects Capital House Group’s consistent commitment to developing social housing in line with international green building standards—focusing not only on affordability, but also on operational efficiency and long-term living quality for residents.
