Environmentally Friendly House Using Interlocking Compressed Cement-Stabilized Earth Blocks
Located in Tan Minh Commune, Da Bac District, Hoa Binh Province, this environmentally friendly house was invested in and directly designed by the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering. The project is a small-scale residential model with a total floor area of 40 m², implemented during 2023–2024 and now completed. It targets LOTUS Home V1 – Certified status and serves as a research and pilot model for sustainable construction solutions adapted to mountainous local conditions.
The project’s key highlight is the application of interlocking compressed cement-stabilized earth blocks—an environmentally friendly material that utilizes locally available resources while reducing embodied energy and carbon emissions during production. Combined with a minimalist design approach, effective natural ventilation, and optimized daylighting, the house not only meets basic living needs but also demonstrates the potential for replicable, cost-effective green housing solutions suitable for rural and disadvantaged areas.
