On July 11th, 2024, VGBA & VILANDCO, in collaboration with One Click LCA and experts in green materials, LCA, and sustainable construction, organized a training session titled “Embodied Carbon, LCA, and Sustainable Construction.”
Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien, Director of VILANDCO & VGBA, stated that knowledge about LCA is still very new and not widely disseminated in Vietnam. With the program provided by One Click LCA, the short course offered an essential foundation on LCA and embodied carbon, standards for conducting LCA, Environmental Product Declarations (EPD), and emissions control in construction projects.
The program was delivered by lecturers from Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE) and the Sustainable Construction Department of INSEE Vietnam.
The program began with The Basics of LCA and Embodied Carbon, and The Reasons for Conducting LCA and Embodied Carbon Studies, presented by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Tuan from the Faculty of Building Materials, HUCE.
In the next segment, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dung, Head of Sustainable Construction at INSEE Vietnam, shared insights on the theory and standards for LCA. Additionally, his lecture detailed LCA data and explained EPD – Environmental Product Declarations.
During the training, Mr. Le Dinh Linh, lecturer at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering and Ph.D. candidate in Sustainable Development and Climate Change in Italy, highlighted the benefits of stakeholders conducting LCA, processes, and emission control methods in construction.
With this valuable knowledge, VGBA, VILANDCO, and the experts hope to give learners a clearer understanding of embodied carbon and LCA, laying the foundation for businesses to begin applying it in practical work.
