On September 6, 2024, the workshop “Sustainable Facades for Buildings 2024” organized by the Vietnam Green Building Council took place at the New World Saigon Hotel with in-depth sharing on optimizing the energy efficiency of buildings through high-performance facade and window systems, solar energy systems integrated into the building facade and effective facade architectural design for buildings. At the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien, director of VILANDCO & VGBA representing One Click LCA software company, gave a speech on the issue of optimizing the carbon footprint of building facades. Here, he pointed out the alarming environmental impacts of the construction industry in general, explained about the carbon footprint, the life cycle stages of a building and the corresponding impact indicators in the LCA life cycle impact assessment method. He pointed out the environmental impacts of building envelopes, some main materials for facades and their Global Warming Potential (GWP), and also highlighted the factors that cause emissions of facades and the strategies that can be applied to reduce emissions.
Also here, in the open discussion session, many questions and issues in the field of facades for buildings were also exchanged and discussed between speakers and attendees.
