About VGBC
The Vietnam Green Building Council (VGBC) was established in 2007 to develop Vietnam’s green building market in response to climate change challenges, energy security, natural resource pressures, and rapid urbanization.
As a business association, VGBC supports over 40 corporations representing manufacturing, design, investment, and real estate development. Key implementation partners include the Vietnam Ministry of Construction, EuroCham, various embassies, and universities. VGBC has represented Vietnam in the World Green Building Council (WGBC) since 2009, bringing global green building priorities to the local context. VGBC’s representatives are currently part of WGBC’s Sustainable Finance Task Force, comprising members from 25 Green Building Councils worldwide.
The task force aims to accelerate local ESG investment in verified green assets. This effort includes providing input to international organizations developing standards for green real estate investment towards carbon neutrality and meeting the nationally determined contributions (NDC) commitments at COP26.
VGBC’s core activities include capacity building, sustainable building certification (LOTUS), supporting the green building material supply chain, research, advocacy, and networking through the membership community.
VGBC’s LOTUS green building rating system was first launched in 2010 and has since evolved into six different rating systems for all types of buildings.
LOTUS shares sustainability priorities with other national rating systems (energy, water, resources, indoor health…) but is also tailored to Vietnam.
